This amazing small island kept its traditional style. Symi is also known as the island of the sea sponges; Symi is often called ‘the sponge island’, although this also applies to the sponge island of Kalymnos. Other specialties of the island of Symi are the herbs, such as thyme and rigani (oregano). These herbs grow wild on the hills and give a wonderful scent. Sponges, wild herbs and flavorful honey, as well as ceramics are easy to find in the shops in the beautiful town.
